Lady Wildcats basketball team roll over St. Elizabeth 55 - 22
Lady Wildcats Roll 55 -22 The Westminster Christian Academy Lady Wildcats completed the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule with a convincing 55-22 conference victory over the St. Elizabeth Seahawks. Both teams came out cold and neither team could establish control as the quarter ended with the Lady Wildcats hold on to a slim 8 – 7 margin. Westminster decided to get stingy in the second quarter and held St. Elizabeth to only one point while scoring nine for a 17 – 8 halftime lead. The Lady Wildcats came out firing in the third quarter and outscored St. Elizabeth 25-5 for the quarter and won going away 55 – 22.
Junior Leah Beck led the Lady Wildcats in scoring as she tallied 22 points on 10 – 16 shooting from the field and she was a perfect 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Leah also had eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Sophomore Sarah Clark added ten points including two second quarter treys to go with two steals and two assists. Junior Jessie Menchak talled nine points and grabbed four rebounds and had a steal, an assist and a block. Katie Haverstick chipped in with eight points and also grabbed two rebounds and had three assists and two steals. Senior Abby Ferguson hit a three for three points and had a steal and a rebound. Freshman marci Penning came off the bench and dropped in two points and had an assist. Junior Emily Beerbower completed the scoring with a free throw but more importantly grabbed a team high eight rebounds and passed out three assists. Sophomore Kelly Penning started for the injured Stephanie Brown and made her presence felt under the basket as she grabbed four rebounds, had three steals, a block and two assists.
After the Christmas break, the lady Wildcats resume play at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 27 as they take on the Ladue Lady Rams in the Kennedy Christmas tournament. As you spend time with family and friends, don’t forget why we celebrate this season – the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
