At Least The 3rd Best Team In Missouri

The boys went to Fulton, Missouri for Sectional play. They quickly defeated the host team (Fulton High School) 5-0 in the morning; and then @ 1:00 PM, the Wildcats took on MICDS. The boys played well and gave MICDS great matches on every court. While Gregory Schoenberg and Nick O'Neal had a very close doubles match that went 3 sets, Brian Keffer was the only one who pulled out a win (at the #2 singles spot). He beat Charlie Curtis, a MICDS standout who had gone undefeated all season (as a singles player). Brian put an end to that streak in what would be Keffer's last high school match (an impressive way to go out).

Team Districts

The boys' season continues! Yesterday, the fellows defeated Priory 5-1 (and it would have been 6-1, if we had let Nick O'Neal play his match point). A special note: Jimmy Myers returned to the court after his long time on the bench due to a back injury; and the team was glad to have him back and watch him win easily in straigh sets. Hunsicker and DeRousse pulled out their #1 doubles match in 3 sets. Keffer Munson got theirs in straight sets. Hunsicker and Keffer also secured straight set singles wins with solid play all the way around.

Districts

Most the team fell in the quarterfinals held @ MICDS, but Joe Hunsicker advanced to the semis where he had a gut-wrenching 3 hour battle against Whitfield's Michael Gardner. Though Joe made a great comeback, fighting off several match points along the way, he couldn't quite pull it out, losing 4-6 in the 3rd set. Then Joe had to go out and play for 3rd place which he won nobly, and even though he did not qualify for state, he once again showed why he is one of the classiest tennis players on planet earth. Poised. Honest. Compassionate. Humble. Unassuming. Dedicated. Talented. The team thinks it's quite an honor to march into battle with Joe as their #1 representative.

Regular Season Ends With Win Against Chaminade

Today capped off the regular season of play. The Wildcats defeated Chaminade 6-3, in a hard fought battle. Brian Keffer and Jimmy Munson brought home straight set singles wins, and they also paired up together to bring home a doubles victory! Gregory Schoenberg and Brandon DeRousse dominated their doubles match...as did Seth Lillenberg/Nick O'Neal and Matt Reilly/Timmy Miller. Great combinations with great tennis. Jimmy Myers fought hard and came out with an amazing first set, and then his nagging back injury flared up. He still fought courageously, eventually losing in a 3rd set tiebreaker. But his determination, excellence, and commitment exemplify well what this team was all about when it came to competition. Fighters who are also gentlemen. Classy.

JV Comes Through for Varsity Result

On the tennis courts, JV bailed out Varsity @ Principia. Due to the strength of our JV team, Coach Talley recruited 6 JV players to fill in the doubles spots for an official Varsity match. Of the Varsity players involved in the match, only Timmy Miller won (@ #4 singles) - he played smart, controlled tennis. At the other 3 singles spots, our Varsity players ended up losing, each player in 3 sets. So the match came down to the doubles courts, where the JV guys picked up the slack. Those teams were Robert Thompson/Caleb Olsen, Connor Zielonko/Stephen Lillenberg, and Johnny Kehr/Tom Winter. Great job guys!
