Resounding Romping
The 8th grade Westminster Wildcat football team evened their record at 2-2 last Saturday with a resounding 30-8 victory over the visiting Rebels of Priory. The excitement started immediately after the referee set the ball in place for Westminster at their own 41-yard line. John Eric Steiner hit Coby Nye in the flat, and 59 yards later the Wildcats were on the board. Josh Ortiz provided the PAT, and 18 seconds into the game Westminster owned an 8-0 lead.
Impressive Victory
The 8th grade Westminster Wildcat football team moved their record to 3-2 this past Saturday with an impressive 30-15 road victory against the MICDS Rams. The Wildcats opened the scoring on their first possession of the game. Starting on their own 39-yard line, Westminster started the game with a steady diet of short passes from John Eric Steiner and bruising runs by Drew Haynes. The 61-yard TD drive was capped by a 20-yard pass from John Eric to Jacob Hicks. The PAT was wide left and the Wildcats led early 6-0.
Wildcats Grit Teeth and Dig In
The 8th grade Wildcat football team took their show on the road Wednesday night for a game under the lights against the Chaminade Rams. Westminster opened the game receiving the ball and brought out a balanced attack of John Eric Steiner passes and Mark McFarland runs. The first series provided quick excitement as Mark turned a 4th and 1, into a first down on a 2-yard run. The next play, however, saw a John Eric pass intercepted and returned 45 yards for a Rams touchdown. The extra point kick was good and Chaminade lead 8-0. On the very next series the Wildcats again gave the Rams a gift as a Josh Ortiz option toss never found its target and wound up in the hands of a Chaminade defender at the bottom of the pile. Three running plays later Chaminade punched it in for a touchdown. The PAT was good and with less than 5 minutes off the clock Westminster was down 16-0.
Thriller Leaves Nothing to Chance
The 8th grade Westminster Wildcat football team opened their season in style Saturday morning with a 20-13 victory over the visiting Affton Jr. Cougars. The young Wildcats opened the scoring in the 1st quarter on a short pass from John Eric Steiner to Mark McFarland that resulted in a 56 yard TD. McFarland took the pass 6 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and ran the remaining 50 yards down the sideline virtually untouched for Westminster’s first touchdown of the season. Josh Ortiz’s PAT kick attempt was wide right. Score: Westminster 6 Affton 0. On Affton’s next position, Jacob Hicks stopped the driving Jr. Cougars with an interception at Westminster’s 30 yard line. The quarter ended shortly after Hick’s INT as the Wildcats turned the ball over on downs.
