Wildcats fall to Cavaliers in tough battle!!
The 7th Grade Football Wildcats traveled to Bishop DuBourg for a matchup with the Cavaliers. It was a great effort as they came up on the short end of a 22-12 score. The game started out in a great fashions as the Wildcats drove the ball 65 yards for a touchdown to take an early 6-0 lead. The offensive line of threw a lot of key blocks led by Nicholas Zintel, Jacob Huelskoetter, and Theodore Muschaney which led to a 1 yard touchdown run. Bishop DuBourg then used its Double Wing Offense and put the next 22 points on the board in the 2nd Quarter to take a 22-6 halftime lead. Our boys showed some great heart in the 2nd half as they held the Cavaliers out of the end zone. Travis Ralls led the defense from his linebacker spot as he made a few sideline to sideline tackles. Other defensive standouts included Brennan Hehner, who had multiple tackles for negative yardage, Colin Einertson, great open field tackle and Justice Bartlett, who made some big defensive stops. Robert Rasche made a great defensive stop on a fourth and goal play. The game ended up 22-12 as Shane Benes late in the fourth quarter made a highlight reel run as he scampered 88 yards for a touchdown. The game ended in a 22-12 margin for the Cavilers. The teams then played a “5th Quarter” and the highlights of the extra session was a 35 yard touchdown scamper by Demetris Williams and an open field tackle of the Cavalier fullback by Bradley Almus. The Wildcats showed their mettle in this game as they played hard for all five quarters and were entertaining to the crowd. Next game is Saturday, October 4th versus Duchesne at Westminster Christian Academy.
WILDCATS TAME COUGARS FOR FIRST WIN!!!
The 7th Grade Football team started their 2008 campaign with a 12-7 victory over the Affton Cougars on Saturday. On the opening kickoff, Ryan Russo and Derek Bell combined to make a hit on the return man who fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Bradley Almus. A few plays later the Wildcat combination of Shane Benes passing to Tristan Becker connected on a 19 yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats up 6-0 with 5:51 left in the opening quarter. After an outstanding run by the Affton Cougar running back, the 1st quarter ended with our Wildcats on the short end of the 7-6 score. With 4:31 left in the half, the Cats put together a drive which was keyed by a run and catch of 25 yards by Tyler Catlett. Quarterback Shane Benes then completed the drive with a 10 yard touchdown run 1:31 left in the half which put the Wildcats up 12-7. Taking the opening kickoff, the Wildcats, led by Quarterback JD Kline, put together an impressive drive of 16 plays which was keyed by an electrifying run of 24 yards by Demetrius Williams and a pass interference call on Affton. The defense then came to forefront as they combined for a sack to hold Affton to a “four and out” on their possession. On the following possession, the Wildcat offense picked up a key 1st down on a fourth and 12 as Beau Beattie made a great catch on an 18 yard reception as the Wildcats played ball control to eat up the play clock. With 58 seconds left in the game, Affton took over the ball deep in their territory and tried to put together a long play to win the game. On fourth down, the key stop of the game was made by Matt Kimberling and Tyler Burns as they stopped the running back short of the first down and the Wildcats claimed their first victory of their Westminster careers. Great job Wildcats on your first victory!!!
