Community of Giving Update - $617,000

• It is giving, not just tuition, that really makes the difference in our ability to become better as a school. Tuition helps us hire great teachers, keep them, and equip them, but giving results in some of the most significant new areas of impact in terms of initiatives, technology, building improvements, and financial aid.
• One of the questions we often hear is, “Why are you asking me to give when so many people already pay tuition?”  Yes, we ask people to give. But more than that, we ask they seriously pray and consider what God is doing through Westminster Christian Academy. Most of our past families never dreamed that their involvement in giving would be used by the Lord to grow and strengthen a school that has graduated over 2000 students since 1976. Your giving has impacted so many families.
• When you walk through the halls of Westminster, you’ll see new computers, a language lab, laptop carts for students and teachers, bleachers on the football field, lights in the little theatre, band room improvements, and facility improvements. There are also the harder-to-see aspects that are impacted through giving: teacher training and a growing amount of financial aid for families. All of these things add up to millions of dollars of investments over recent years, all impacting the Westminster community.
• This year we’ve talked a lot about plans to advance the Significant Seven—Academic Excellence, Technology, the Sciences, Fine Arts, Athletics, Special Services, and Financial Aid. Every strategic step we make is impacted by our Community of Giving, and we are so grateful for all that you’ve done in the past!

Westminster Town & Country Site Plan

Happy New Year from Westminster Christian Academy! Today is a key milestone and the result of prayerful planning and the Lord’s direction for our future campus in Town & Country.

After an ongoing, diligent process of consulting with parents, teachers, donors, neighbors, and city officials, Westminster Christian Academy has today submitted a site plan for a new 70-acre campus at Maryville Centre Drive and South Outer Forty Drive to the city of Town & Country for approval. This begins the official process of review and consideration for approval by the city, which will continue in the coming weeks and months.

You will, no doubt, remember that this past October, by God’s gracious provision, Central Presbyterian Church approved the sale of the adjacent 30-acre Centreat property to Westminster. This land was provided through the generous giving of a family that loves both Westminster and Central Presbyterian Church, and it allowed us to broaden our vision for a 21st Century Christian school, including grades 7-12.

Over the past few months, we have met with the mayor, aldermen, city attorney, neighbors, and neighborhood trustees to review preliminary drawings and gather feedback on our plans. The response has been very positive.

Plans for the new campus were designed specifically to best serve and advance who we are as a Christian school community. The site plan includes a main school building, a fine arts center with a 600-seat theater and 200-seat black box theater, two gyms, and a media production center. The new school will accommodate 1,200 students and incorporate our neighborhood concept with a “school-within-a-school” design. Athletic facilities will include an 80,000-square-foot athletic complex with 1.5 sheets of ice; an eight-lane swimming pool and fitness center; a lighted football/soccer/track stadium; a performance soccer field; 10 tennis courts; and game and practice fields for softball, baseball, lacrosse, and field hockey.

Architectural firm Zwick and Gandt developed the site plan, which has been presented in preliminary form to neighbors, school staff, parents, and city officials in advance of the formal submission to Town & Country. We have been working closely with our future neighbors to ensure that our plan and land use accomplish Westminster’s vision, while serving the surrounding community. We have worked hard to not only create a campus designed for our students, families, and teachers, but to also be aware of how our footprint and building use affect our neighbors. We have already made several adjustments to our original plans in order to address the concerns raised by nearby residents.

The creation of this site plan and its submittal to the city of Town & Country are two more significant steps toward our plans to move the entire school to Town & Country, and we are in the beginning stages of a process to sell our 30-acre Creve Coeur campus on Ladue Road. I ask for your continued prayers through this important time in Westminster’s history.

The site plan submittal continues our diligent commitment to a timeline that would enable us to break ground in Town & Country in 2009, with the completed campus ready in time for the 2010-2011 school year. This timeline is largely tied to God’s blessing on our campaign, For Such A Time As This. The new campus is one part of our capital campaign, and we hope to have raised a significant portion of the gifts to manage the construction before breaking ground. Westminster has always been a highly responsible steward of its donors' gifts, so we do not plan to begin construction until we know we can fully realize the campaign goal. We have been blessed to have already reached our first milestone in the capital campaign, and we are currently on track to meet our goal for the new campus and other strategic initiatives.

Please join with me in praying for the process of review by the city of Town & Country. Pray also for God to raise up leaders and generous supporters for our campaign. Lastly, pray that God would continuously strengthen our focus and bless our efforts to see more young men and women prepared to engage the world and change it for Jesus Christ.

Please take the time to review the campus site plan, available online below.

Thank you for all of your prayers and all that you do for Westminster.
